Luckily, Mei and Ming had already had their usual breakfast. They didn’t feel the need to eat anything yet. Ming kept enjoying his games while Mei started listening to the announcements and paying attention to the train information sliding on the screen from left to right. She read her ticket, and it was their turn to start queuing for the ticket-reader.
Standing before the automatic ticket barrier, Mei became nervous because the machine wouldn’t accept their tickets. “What’s wrong?” She muttered as anxiously as she acted. “Nothing wrong!” A woman in uniform with scissors rising in her hand yelled, “Come over here! The machines are designed for the blue ticket. Of course you can’t go through with your red ticket!” Scornfully and quickly, she added, “Didn’t you see the sign up there? Blue ticket holders stand on those two lines and the red ones here!”
